What is Luminar Works?

Luminar Works is a route planning and field execution platform for small and medium-sized businesses. It helps teams plan which tasks are carried out by which resources, on which day, in the most efficient order — and share those plans with the people and systems that need them.

Luminar Works is modular. Every account starts with Luminar Core, the free base platform, and paid modules can be added on top as your planning needs grow. Modules layer onto your existing setup — adding a module never restructures or replaces what you have already configured.

Who is Luminar Works for?

Luminar Works is built for businesses that send resources out to customer locations to perform work — deliveries, collections, service visits, inspections, installations, or any combination of these. It is industry-agnostic: the same planning concepts apply whether your resources are vans, technicians, crews, or equipment.

It suits teams that currently plan in spreadsheets, on whiteboards, or in a planner's head, and want a faster, more reliable way to build and publish daily plans without adopting heavyweight enterprise software.

How Luminar Works is structured

The platform is organized around a small set of core concepts:

  • Business Units — the operating units you plan within. Each Business Unit has its own resources and plans.
  • Resources — who and what does the work. Resources include Assets (such as vehicles or equipment) and Agents (people).
  • Customers and Sites — who the work is for, and the locations where it happens.
  • Tasks — the individual pieces of work to be planned.
  • Trips — the planned sequence of tasks assigned to a resource.

Planning happens in a visual planning interface, where tasks are arranged into trips on a Gantt-style timeline. Plans move through three states: planning (actively being planned), planned (associated to a trip), and published (confirmed and locked — available to the wider team and connected systems).

Coming soon: A Luminar Works mobile app for agents — allowing published trips to be viewed and executed in the field — is coming soon after launch, and is not yet available.

For full detail on these concepts, see the Architecture documentation. For how each page of the interface works, see the Interface documentation.

Luminar Works modules

Luminar Core (free) provides the core platform: resource, customer, and task management, manual trip planning on the Gantt, and publishing. Core supports up to 5 resources in your first Business Unit at no cost.

Paid modules available at launch include:

  • Smart Planning — automated trip optimization. The optimizer builds efficient plans within the rules you set, and never breaks a hard constraint.
  • Multi-day Planning — extend your planning horizon beyond a single day and plan across multiple days at once.
  • Size-Up — plan against resource capacity, so trips respect what each resource can actually carry or handle.

Each module has its own detailed documentation. Additional modules are on the roadmap — see the Roadmap documentation for what is planned but not yet available.

Luminar Works subscription model

  • Luminar Core is free for up to 5 resources in your first Business Unit.
  • Beyond that, pricing is per resource.
  • Paid modules can be trialled before subscribing.
  • Modules can be added or removed (upgraded or downgraded) as your needs change.

See the Subscription documentation for full details, and the Founding Fleet documentation if you joined through the Founding Fleet early-adopter program.

What Luminar Works focuses on

Luminar Works is focused on planning and field activities for distribution, sales, and service environments. We're launching with planning; mobile field execution will follow shortly after launch. Published trips can be retrieved by your own systems via the REST API — and once the mobile app is available, plans will be published to the mobile app for activities in the field. See the Limitations documentation for a full statement of current scope.
