What is Size-Up?

Size-Up plans trips around real capacity — up to three capacity dimensions, balanced across your resources. It is built for operations where more than one limit shapes the plan: one capacity limit rarely describes a real operation, and holding several at once means the plan reflects the constraints you actually work under — not a simplified version that looks fine on screen and falls short on the ground. Over-capacity trips, wasted space, and compliance issues get caught while you're still planning, not once the day is underway.

Size-Up requires Luminar Core as the base platform, and layers on top of your existing setup without restructuring it. Current pricing is shown on the Subscription Management page, accessed from the main menu after login.

Size-Up is available to Capacity-Constrained Business Units only. Capacities are held on Assets — and in a Time-Constrained Business Unit, only service tasks are planned, which carry no sizes.

What Size-Up includes

Size-Up: up to 3 capacity dimensions

Luminar Core plans around one capacity dimension. Size-Up adds two more, so up to three of your operation's constraints are held in the same plan — whatever capacity means for the work you do. Capacity dimensions are user-definable: pre-populated options illustrate the kinds of unit of measure a capacity can represent, and a custom option lets you define your own.

In visual representations, precedence is given to the first capacity dimension (Size 1), then Size 2, then Size 3 — while utilization calculations take all three dimensions into account.

Size-Up: limits set per Asset

Capacity limits are set per Asset, because no two are the same. A courier juggling weight, pallet spots, and volumetric loading is covered — and the same applies to whatever capacities shape your work.

Size-Up: conflicts caught during planning

If a trip would push past any of its limits, that shows while you're still planning — so it's resolved at the desk, not discovered once the day is underway. There's no second and third pass to make sure nothing's been pushed too far; the check is built in.

Size-Up: tighter use of each resource

Modeling your limits more accurately means each Asset is loaded closer to what it can genuinely take on — less capacity left unused, without overcommitting anyone, while staying the right side of the limits that carry real cost.

Size-Up and other modules

Size-Up can be subscribed to directly with Luminar Core alone — no other module is required.

  • With Smart Planning, capacities are enforced as hard constraints — the optimizer never builds a trip that exceeds them.
  • With Multi-day Planning, capacity dimensions are respected across every day of the horizon.

Size-Up FAQs

Can I use Size-Up in a Time-Constrained Business Unit?
No. Size-Up is available to Capacity-Constrained Business Units only — capacities are held on Assets, and service tasks, the only task type planned in Time-Constrained Business Units, carry no sizes.

Do I need Smart Planning to use Size-Up?
No — Size-Up can be used directly with Luminar Core. Smart Planning isn't required, but it can make planning significantly faster as your operation becomes more complex.

Can different Assets have different capacity limits?
Yes. Limits are set per Asset, because no two are the same.

Can a trip ever exceed its capacity limits?
When the Smart Planning optimizer is run with Size-Up, capacities are treated as hard constraints — it won't build a trip that goes over. An over-capacity trip only happens one of two ways: you've planned or adjusted it by dragging and dropping on the Gantt, or something changed after planning — an Asset's capacity was edited, say — so a trip that fit before no longer does. Either way, Luminar Works shows it clearly, so it's caught while the trip is still in the planned state, not after it's published.

What can I do about an over-capacity trip?
Two paths. Adjust it — move or reassign tasks on the Gantt, or re-optimize with Smart Planning to rebuild within the limits — until the trip fits. Or, if the overflow is deliberate and you're willing to run it, accept it and let the trip go ahead over capacity.

Is Size-Up included when I sign up?
If you qualify for the 30-day free trial — one Business Unit with 5 or fewer resources — you get access to all paid modules during the trial, Size-Up included. If you start with more than 5 resources, the trial does not apply and your first payment is taken immediately on subscribing. When the trial ends, keep the modules you want by subscribing, or continue on Luminar Core — free, with no time limit, for up to 5 resources in your first Business Unit.

Can I remove Size-Up later?
Yes, at any time. Your Luminar Core base and any other active modules keep working. Removing a module switches off its capabilities, but your data and settings are retained, and your configuration is restored if you resubscribe.
