What is Luminar Core?
Luminar Core is the free base platform of Luminar Works — everything you need to start planning, and nothing you don't. It includes resource, customer, and task management, manual trip planning on the Gantt, and publishing.
Luminar Core is free for up to 5 resources in your first Business Unit, with no time limit. It is not a trial. Resources in additional Business Units are charged per resource — the free allocation applies to your first Business Unit only. Paid modules layer on top of Luminar Core as your needs grow — adding a module never restructures or replaces what you have already configured.
Luminar Core: Business Types
Every Business Unit is set up with a Business Type, which shapes how planning works and which resources count towards licenses:
- A Time-Constrained Business Unit plans around the time of the people doing the work. Agents are required to plan, and Agents are the resources that count towards licenses.
- A Capacity-Constrained Business Unit plans around what its equipment can carry or handle. Assets are required to plan, and Assets are the resources that count towards licenses.
The Business Type also determines which task types can be planned:
- Time-Constrained Business Units can plan service tasks only.
- Capacity-Constrained Business Units can plan all three task types: drop-off, pick-up, and service.
What Luminar Core includes
Luminar Core: drag-and-drop trip planning
Plan trips by hand on the Gantt, with full hands-on control of every trip. Luminar Core is built for operations that want direct control over how each day's work is arranged.
Luminar Core: task types
Luminar Core supports three task types: drop-off, pick-up, and service.
- Drop-off and pick-up tasks typically have sizes, which are taken into consideration when planning on Assets.
- Service tasks do not have sizes.
In Luminar Core, each task is independent — there are no dependencies between tasks.
Luminar Core: single-day planning horizon
Build a complete plan for one day at a time. Each day stands on its own, giving a clear, focused view of the work ahead. Planning across multiple days at once is provided by the Multi-day Planning module.
Luminar Core: one capacity dimension
Capture one capacity dimension per Asset and a size for each task, so trips reflect what an Asset can actually handle. Capacities are held on Assets: in a Capacity-Constrained Business Unit, this capacity dimension is taken into consideration during planning. Planning against multiple capacity dimensions is provided by the Size-Up module.
Luminar Core: multiple trips per resource
Assign a single resource more than one trip in a day — split the work when capacity won't stretch to cover it in one trip.
Luminar Core: trip start and end locations
The Business Unit is assumed as the start and end location of a resource's trips. If your resources don't operate from centralised Business Units, you will need the Resource Operation module when it is released — it is not yet available. See the Roadmap documentation.
Luminar Core: constraint visibility
See at a glance when a plan pushes past its limits — time windows missed, capacity exceeded. Clear signals on the Gantt help you adjust before a plan goes out.
Luminar Core: planning states
Plan on the Gantt, and lock in trips that are ready to be carried out by publishing them. Entities move through three planning states:
- Planning — entities that are part of a dataset that is actively being planned. While in the planning state, an entity cannot be edited or deactivated — this prevents contradictions in the data and interference with the session in progress.
- Planned — entities that are associated to a trip.
- Published — planned trip entities that have been confirmed and locked. Publishing is the gatekeeper: only published trips can be exported to CSV, Excel, or PDF, shared to the allocated Agent by email and WhatsApp, or — at general launch — retrieved by external systems via the REST API; published trips are also eligible for mobile execution once the mobile app is available.
Luminar Core: map sets and travel speeds
Luminar Works uses map sets that are updated on a regular basis to determine average travel speeds. Speed profiles are taken into consideration inherently within the map sets — travel-time estimates reflect each resource's speed profile as part of the map data, not as a static adjustment applied on top.
Luminar Core: integration
Bring your data in from spreadsheets with CSV import — no integration build required to get up and running. The REST API supports the creation and maintenance of resources, customers, sites, and tasks, and the retrieval of published trips — so external systems can feed your planning data in, and pull your published trips out to wherever they need to go.
Luminar Core: support
Luminar Core includes community support and self-serve help guides. Direct email support becomes available with any paid module.
How Luminar Core works
Set up once — after that, planning is the only part you repeat.
Setting up Luminar Core
- Create your account. Enter your name, email, and phone number. Your number is verified and an activation link is sent to your inbox, where you set your own password and sign in. No credit card, no setup call.
- Set up your Business Unit. Tell us a little about how you operate, then add the resources and customers you work with. Your Business Unit is the home base for your planning — set it up once, and add more Business Units whenever your operation grows.
Planning with Luminar Core
- Bring in your tasks. Import tasks from a spreadsheet via CSV, create them via the REST API, or add them directly in the platform — each time you're ready to plan.
- Build your plan. Drag and drop tasks on the Gantt until the plan fits your day. Full control, your call.
- Publish your trips. Publish your trips and get them where they need to go.
Luminar Core and paid modules
Luminar Core is the foundation of the Luminar Works platform. Paid modules can be activated whenever your operation needs them:
- Smart Planning — automated trip optimization on top of your existing setup.
- Multi-day Planning — extend the planning horizon beyond a single day.
- Size-Up — plan against multiple capacity dimensions.

Luminar Core FAQs
Do I need a credit card to use Luminar Core?
No. Luminar Core is free for up to 5 resources in your first Business Unit, with no credit card required.
What happens after 5 resources?
If you stay on Luminar Core, you pay only for resources beyond the included 5. Once you subscribe to any paid module, pricing applies across your full resource count. Volume discounts and annual billing discounts are available. Current pricing and volume discounts are shown on the Subscription Management page, accessed from the main menu after login.
Do I lose my data if I downgrade?
No. Your plans and operational data stay available. If you remove a paid module, the capabilities tied to it go inactive — and reactivate the moment you re-add it.
Can I upgrade to paid modules later?
Yes. Luminar Core is designed to be the foundation of the Luminar Works platform. You can activate paid modules whenever your operation needs them.
Is Luminar Core really free, or just a trial?
Really free. Luminar Core doesn't expire — it stays fully functional for up to 5 resources in your first Business Unit, for as long as you like, with no countdown and no card on file. The 30-day trial is separate: it gives you the paid modules to explore up front. When the trial ends, Luminar Core is simply what you keep.
