The Business Configuration page

The Business Configuration page handles the configuration and settings for Business Units.

During the Founding Fleet soft launch, an account has a single Business Unit, so there is no Business Unit selector on this page. Multiple Business Units become available at general launch.

Cards on the Business Configuration page

The page is split into cards that group related information together:

  • General Settings — reporting units and major Business Unit configuration, effective for Luminar Core and all subscribed modules.
  • Business Unit Location — where the Business Unit is physically located.
  • Billing Information — details that appear on customer-facing documentation.
  • Planning — settings that relate to planning.
  • Size-Up — Units of Measure for the capacity dimensions.
  • Smart Planning — settings used when Smart Planning optimization is initiated.

Some settings are universal to Luminar Core; others relate to specific modules. A card that belongs to a module carries a crown icon in its top left to distinguish it.

Card editing and validation in Luminar Works

These conventions apply to cards throughout the Luminar Works interface:

  • The card's title is in the top left. If the user has access to update the card's settings, an edit button (pencil icon) is visible and selectable in the top right.
  • Labels name each field; input fields (text inputs, dropdowns, and so on) hold the values.
  • In edit mode, the font color of editable fields is darker; fields that cannot be edited directly remain lighter.
  • Validation applies where a format is expected — times as hh:mm, email addresses, phone numbers, number formats.
  • A required field's label is followed by an asterisk (*).
  • Changes to a card cannot be submitted while there are validation errors or missing required fields. A field with a validation error is outlined in red, with an explanation of the reason displayed below the field in small red text until the error is rectified.

Why can't I edit a card on the Business Configuration page?

A card may not be editable for a Business Unit for two reasons:

  • Subscription status — if a module is subscribed to or being trialed, its card is active for the Business Unit.
  • Business Type — some modules apply to Capacity-Constrained Business Units only, so their cards are not shown as maintainable for a Time-Constrained Business Unit.

The General Settings card

Settings that affect reporting units and major Business Unit configuration, effective for Luminar Core and all subscribed modules:

  • Business Unit Name — text input.
  • Business Type — dropdown: Time Constrained or Capacity Constrained.
  • Timezone — dropdown.
  • Currency — dropdown.
  • Unit of Distance — dropdown: Imperial (mile) or Metric (kilometer).
  • Status — dropdown: Active or Inactive. Not editable on this card.
  • Resources — the number of licensed resources. Not editable on this card — the number of licenses is adjusted on the Subscription Management page.

The Business Unit Location card

The physical address of the Business Unit, and its precise position in decimal degrees. A map interface displays the position, and the location can be dragged and dropped on the map for precise positioning.

The Business Unit is assumed as the start and end location of a resource's trips, so precise positioning matters for travel-time accuracy.

The Billing Information card

The contact, address, and tax number related to the Business Unit. These details appear on customer-facing documentation generated from Luminar Works.

The Planning card

Settings that relate to planning, whether with Luminar Core alone or with Smart Planning:

  • Speed profile — dropdown. The Business Unit's default speed profile: any newly created resource associated to the Business Unit has the Business Unit's speed profile by default, maintained thereafter at resource level.
  • Business Operating Times — the Business Unit operating window: a Start time and an End time (hh:mm).
  • Reload Duration (hh:mm) — the minimum time between sequential trips on a resource. On the Gantt, 50% of the Reload Duration is allocated to the end of one trip and 50% to the start of the next.

The Size-Up card

Maintains the Units of Measure for the capacity dimensions — Size 1, Size 2, and Size 3.

  • A Business Unit must be Capacity-Constrained to set Units of Measure.
  • Luminar Core includes Size 1, so a Capacity-Constrained Business Unit has access to this card even without a Size-Up subscription.

The Smart Planning card

Settings used when Smart Planning optimization is initiated:

  • Departure Setting — dropdown: Fixed or Dynamic.
  • Optimization Profile — dropdown: Balanced or Fast.
  • Reload — on/off. When on, reloads are allowed — multiple trips can be planned to a resource within the horizon.

Business Configuration FAQs

Why does a card have a crown icon?
The crown marks a card that belongs to a module, rather than the universal Luminar Core settings.

Why can't I edit a card?
Either the related module is not subscribed or in trial for this Business Unit, or the card belongs to a module that does not apply to your Business Type — some modules apply to Capacity-Constrained Business Units only.

Why can't I submit my changes?
A card cannot be submitted while there are validation errors or missing required fields. Fields with errors are outlined in red, with the reason shown below the field.

Why is Reload Duration time allocated to the start and end of a trip?
On the Gantt, 50% of the Reload Duration is allocated to the end of one trip and 50% to the start of the next. This gives room for the activities that happen around a trip's start and end — entering and exiting the gate or security, finding parking, vehicle inspections, paperwork, and stock checks for what has been loaded or unloaded.

Why do I see the Size-Up card when I haven't subscribed to Size-Up?
Luminar Core includes the first capacity dimension (Size 1), so Capacity-Constrained Business Units have access to this card regardless of a Size-Up subscription.

Why don't I see the Size-Up card at all?
The Size-Up card applies to Capacity-Constrained Business Units only.

How do I set my Business Unit's exact location?
Use the Business Unit Location card — enter the physical address, and drag and drop the position on the map for precise positioning in decimal degrees.
